During the 2010 Haitian earthquake, Doctors Without Borders planes were not allowed to land in Haiti. Seeing how these doctors needed to be there, a reporter named Ann Curry did something remarkable.  

She tweeted to the US Air Force, asking that they find a way for these doctors to land in Haiti. Ann made this tweet six days after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, which occurred on January 18, 2010. To everyone’s surprise, the first Doctors Without Borders plane landed in Haiti within hours of her tweet. 

This tweet read, “@usairforce find a way to let Doctors Without Borders planes land in Haiti: http://bit.ly/8hYZOKTHE most effective at this.” 

Ann Curry’s tweet has gone down in history as one of the top moments on Twitter.

2. #OscarsSoWhite

In the early hours of January 15th, 2015, @ReignOfApril tweeted, “#OscarsSoWhite they asked to touch my hair.” This tweet sparked much discussion among other Oscar attendees and even random people all over the internet. 

The tweet became the official hashtag for calling out bias against people of color at the Oscars. It went viral, and everyone called out the Oscars for their lack of diversity, earning it a spot as a top Twitter moment.

3. Elon Musk Hints at Buying Twitter 

In 2022, American billionaire Elon Musk tweeted that he owned a 9% stake in Twitter and wanted to buy the app for $44 billion. This tweet sparked controversy but was the end of the era of Twitter and the beginning of X.

Topping the chart of the most popular tweets ever is the tweet about the death of Chadwick Boseman. On August 28th, 2020, the family of the lead actor of the 2018 film Black Panther tweeted about his death. 

The exact words in the tweet were, “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and battled with it these last four years as it progressed to stage IV…”

Within the first 24 hours, the tweet made its way to become the most-liked tweet on Twitter since its inception. 

The original tweet, with the news of Chadwick’s death, had over 6.7 million likes on Twitter. The company has stated that no tweet has ever gained so many likes since the launch of the app.

2. Elon Musk vs Coca-Cola 

Following Elon Musk’s multibillion-dollar takeover of Twitter, the billionaire made a sarcastic tweet. On the 27th of April 2022, Elon Tweeted, “Next, I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in.”

This post sparked many reactions from people on different social media platforms. 

Many people gave their opinions, and it had 4.5 million likes on Twitter. Elon is known for his humor, so some people understood the context of this tweet. However, others argued that it was disturbing and didn’t make the cut for funny tweets. 

The original Coca-Cola recipe included coca leaf extract, which is also the ingredient from which the cocaine drug is derived. 

3. Barack Obama Quoting Nelson Mandela’s Autobiography 

On August 12, 2017, the then-President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, made a viral tweet: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion.” These were Barack Obama’s exact words in the tweet that gathered around 3.7 million likes. 

This tweet was a direct quote from Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom autobiography. Obama made this statement in response to the Charlottesville incident in 2017

On December 28th, 2022, British-American influencer Andrew Tate tweeted mocking Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmentalist/ activist. Her response to Tate’s tweet mocking her with emissions from his car got over 3.6 million likes on Twitter. 

Her response was, “Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at smalldickenergy@getalife.com”

5. Donald Trump’s Champion Pose

On July 13th, 2024, Elon Musk posted a photo of Former US President Donald Trump. Evan Vucci took the picture after an assassination attempt against Trump in Pennsylvania. 

Donald Trump threw his fist in the air in a “champion pose” after surviving the attempted attack. Elon Musk then posted the picture on his official Twitter handle, @elonmusk, which has gathered 3.5 million likes in less than ten days. 

6. Andy Milonakis’ Opinion on Crew Dragon Demo-2 Space Mission

On May 30th, 2020, SpaceX sent a team of astronauts to space. In response, an American humorist, Andy Milonakis, tweeted the third-most-liked tweet of 2022. His tweet read, “Congratulations to the astronauts who left Earth today. Good choice.” 

His tweet insinuated that being on Earth during the COVID-19 pandemic and protests for George Floyd was not a good idea.

Subsequently, the tweet had around 3.3 million likes on Twitter, making it one of the most-liked tweets in Twitter history.
